Uh-oh! If Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't picked up, Coulson may stay dead

Sure, Coulson lives now. But he might not for long.

Marvel made an interesting decision when putting together the proposed Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. series, bringing fan favorite Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) back to life after his seemingly fatal stabbing in The Avengers.

But what if Joss Whedon’s S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot doesn’t get a series order from ABC? According to Gregg, it’d likely mean that Coulson would stay dead. Permanently.

Here’s Gregg’s comment on the worst-case scenario, when asked if he knew whether the show were being picked up:

“I don’t know. They haven’t told me. Honestly, they haven’t told me the answer yet. I certainly would be sad if it didn’t because I have a feeling it would mean that Coulson didn’t live anymore. But yeah, I think we made a good pilot. Joss knows what he’s doing, and other writers, his brother Jed and Jed’s wife Maurissa are amazing. I think we’ve got a shot.”

Luckily for everyone involved, that’s pretty unlikely, since the network seems keen to expand the blockbuster franchise to the small screen. Though ABC hasn’t officially placed a series order for Whedon’s pilot, most in the business consider it just a formality, and it’d be a shock if this one didn’t find a place on the fall schedule. Fans can’t get enough of Marvel these days, and the project would have a lot of momentum behind it.

Regardless of the TV show, would you still want to see Coulson back in action?
