New weird problems, same weird family in first trailer for Season 2 of Netflix's Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy Season 2

As Netflix's hit comic adaptation The Umbrella Academy welcomes fans back for its second season, fans of the Gerard Way series have a lot to celebrate. Showrunner Steve Blackman is back and the cast of the superhero strangeness has only expanded, adding Ritu Arya, Yusuf Gatewood, and Marin Ireland to an already stacked team led by Ellen Page and Robert Sheehan. Now the super-family shenanigans and all their time-displaced antics are back in the first trailer for the new season.

The cast showed off their moves in a quarantine teaser earlier this year when their premiere date was announced, dancing around their respective coronavirus lockdown locales and there were so many Easter egg-filled posters that fans probably strained their eyes trying to glean any detail about the time-twisting S2. But now it's time for some real footage of the fun to come.

Take a look:

The end of the world needs stopping and it couldn't have picked a worse time. The timeline is all screwed-up, Klaus has a cult, and the super-siblings have until "Monday" to set everything straight. If only they hadn't been flung all over Dallas for the past three years...in 1960.

And yes, that's an original track by comic creator Gerard Way titled "Here Comes The End" in the trailer. “I was originally inspired to write this track when series one of The Umbrella Academy was being shot; by the time I finished it 2020 was in full swing, the world had taken a profound turn and the song was finished in a surreal new reality,” Way said in a statement.

The show also features David Castañeda, Tom Hopper, Aidan Gallagher, Justin H. Min, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Mary J. Blige, Cameron Britton, and - apparently - some evil milkmen. Ten more oddball, music-infused episodes are on their way to the streaming service as one of Netflix's biggest surprise hits heads towards its sophomore year.

The Umbrella Academy returns to Netflix on July 31.
