As we recently learned, The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was pushed back from 2016 to 2018, which means that it will be four years before we get to see Andrew Garfield sling another web. It also means that June 10, 2016, was wide open on Sony's calendar. But now that slot has been filled--with a whole lot of awesome. According to IGN, Uncharted will take the spot that AS-M3 has left behind.
This is fantastic news. Uncharted may be based on a videogame--a phrase that strikes fear into the heart of many moviegoers--but it's one of the most cinematic and entertaining games we've ever played, and its transition from game to movie is a no-brainer (see for yourselves).
The Naughty Dog action-adventure is a three (soon to be four)-game series for the PlayStation 3 (soon to be 4) and feels like something Steven Spielberg would have created had he made Raiders of the Lost Ark as a videogame instead of a movie. Wisecracking adventurer? Check. Elements of magic? Check. Nazi submarine base? Check and mate.
Although the movie has not yet been cast (Nathan Fillion, who was interested in the role, was turned down; Mark Wahlberg had once been attached but has not been confirmed), it has a director. In 2007, Seth Gordon directed the thoroughly engaging documentary The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters ... which means he has some experience with good movies based a videogame.
