Last year, as X-Men: Days of Future Past loomed on the box-office schedule, it was beginning to feel like we weren't going to see Hugh Jackman's Wolverine that much longer. Fans and experts wondered aloud how much longer Jackman, at 46, would want to keep up the physically demanding role, especially as the X-Men films began skewing toward a young cast that'll get even younger by the time X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters. Jackman himself even said he wasn't sure he'd go on with the character after Days of Future Past, and then the news came that he'd made up his mind.
Back in March, Jackman posted that he'd be playing Wolverine "one last time," and we all suspected that time would be in the third Wolverine film, which Jackman wasn't even entirely sure about until he'd seen and liked the script. But what about Apocalypse? Jackman played a central role in Days of Future Past, and though Apocalypse seems geared toward a younger generation of X-Men as they face new enemies, it seems like some connection to Wolverine and the events of the last film could be set up. Jackman himself hasn't said anything about making an appearance in the film, but over the weekend his involvement may have been confirmed by a somewhat odd source.
Kika NY, a Brooklyn-based leather goods company, posted a photo to its Instagram account a few days ago with the caption: "We were just asked to make a special duffle backpack for Hugh Jackman who is filming the new X-Men movie in Montreal." The post was later deleted, but not before nerd news sites began picking up the quote.
So, can we call this a confirmation? Well ... let's be safe and add a grain of salt for now. Apocalypse is indeed filming in Montreal, and the Kika post's deletion would suggest someone at Fox asked them to take the information down, but there's always the possibility that there was a misunderstanding. Still, Jackman took the time to cameo in X-Men: First Class despite having no bearing on the plot, so perhaps he'll pop up in Apocalypse, if only for a minute or two.
What do you think? Do we really have two more Hugh Jackman Wolverine appearances to look forward to?
