Netflix has unveiled the first trailer for iBoy, the new original sci-fi movie starring a Game of Thrones star and an X-Men alum.
Directed by Adam Randall (Level Up, Hooded) from a screenplay written by Joe Barton (Humans), iBoy stars Bill Milner (who played a young Magneto in X-Men: First Class), Maisie Williams (Game of Thrones), Miranda Richardson (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1) and Rory Kinnear (Penny Dreadful). So what is Netflix's new British sci-fi movie about?
iBoy centers on an everyday teenager named Tom who ends up with some extraordinary powers when fragments from his smartphone get embedded in his head after a violent run-in with the local gang. You know the saying, right? With great power comes great responsibility, and Tom decides to take on the responsibility of taking out the gang responsible for the whole thing and for assaulting his BFF Lucy (Williams). The story sounds interesting if simple, and the effects look decent, so I'm hoping this will be one of the streaming giant's better offerings. Here's the official synopsis:
Tom is an average teenager whose world is turned on its head when a violent encounter with local thugs leaves fragments of his shattered smartphone embedded in his brain. He wakes from a coma to discover that returning to normal teenage life is impossible because he has developed a strange set of superpowers. With these new powers he sets out to seek revenge on the gang, who also assaulted his best friend Lucy.
iBoy will debut Jan. 27 on Netflix.
