Marvel’s Poe Dameron comic has been filling in some gaps from before Star Wars: The Force Awakens, but it’s about to take a more poignant turn.
Writer Charles Soule has revealed plans to honor the late Carrie Fisher in an upcoming issue via a funeral scene that was already planned in the series. General Leia Organa is apparently present at the funeral, and though the scene wasn’t originally about her, Soule said he now sees it as an opportunity to show some love to Fisher. The Poe Dameron series has been a thrill ride in Marvel’s line, and Soule is a heck of a writer, so whatever he’s cooking up should certainly be heartening.
The Poe Dameron series follows the fan-favorite pilot from The Force Awakens in the events before the film, and chronicles his adventures leading an elite X-Wing squadron. The series features art by Phil Noto, who has already chimed in with a touching sketch in tribute to Fisher (see below).
The relevant issue of Poe Dameron is set to hit shelves in early 2017.
