With the second season of Daredevil a few months away from being unleashed on Netflix, two new official pics have been released, revealing a tense confrontation between the Man Without Fear and the Punisher, as well as Matt Murdock getting up close and personal with a certain someone.
If you thought the first season of Marvel's Daredevil was a bit slow to kick things into gear, then you're in luck. In a new interview with Entertainment Weekly, showrunners Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez revealed that Season 2 will have a much faster pace than the first season. “We hit the ground running and then we ran as fast as we f—ing could,” Petrie said.
Not only will Daredevil be firing on all cylinders from the very first episode on, but, as you guys already know by now, the show is set to introduce Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal) and Matt Murdock’s (Charlie Cox) former lady love, Elektra (Elodie Yung). Oh, and there’ll be MOAR sex, with Matt getting all warm and cozy (VERY warm and cozy, from the look of things) with Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), as well as with his former girlfriend, another vigilante who’ll be stirring things up when she comes waltzing into town, wielding her deadly sais.
“Matt’s a deeply moral complicated guy and she’s just the best bad girlfriend you can possibly have,” Petrie says. “She does everything wrong and attractive, she’s his id, the wild side. Matt is always taming his wild side. Elektra just lets it out. He’s both repulsed and deeply drawn to that.”
As for the eagerly anticipated introduction in Daredevil's neighborhood of Hell’s Kitchen of one of Marvel's most badass and controversial characters ever (that'd be the Punisher), Doug Petrie says they won’t shy away from the gun-toting violence Frank Castle is set to rain down on the criminals of New York City.
“Viewers watching the show will be rooting for this guy with a gun but we’re also going to force people — the way we force Matt — to second-guess themselves,” Petrie says. “Taking lethal justice into your own hands in America in 2015 is tricky s–t. We have not shied away from the rich complicated reality of Now. If you’ve got a gun and you’re not the police you’re going to incite strong feelings. We’re stirring the pot and we’re aware of the headlines where we live and we’re trying to get people to think.”
With Marco Ramirez adding: “He has a different moral code. Matt is a devout Catholic — and you rarely see a character who’s a devout anything on TV. Frank has Hammurabi’s Code. It’s like letting a great white shark into the water.”
UPDATE: 4 more pics have emerged thanks to the good folks over at JoBlo, and I've included them in the new gallery below. Enjoy!
