The Vampire Diaries may get a Buffy-meets-X-Files companion show

If creator Kevin Williamson has his way, it will, as he's currently developing a supernatural drama that would join Vampire Diaries on The CW's lineup.

According to Deadline, Williamson is in the early stages of a show that's being described as a cross between The X-Files and Buffy the Vampire Slayer—about a group of paranormal investigators—and he's roping in Diaries' co-creator/executive producer Julie Plec to help. While this as-yet-untitled show would share a vibe and a feel with The Vampire Diaries, it wouldn't exist in the same universe—so kill any hopes of periodic crossovers, as when Angel would drop in on Sunnydale to check on the Scoobies.

Given that there's no script, or a network deal, the soonest this show would hit the air is the 2012-13 season. So cool your jets.
