What do you do when monsters are attacking your neighborhood? Well, if you’re the recently announced cast of the upcoming comedy Vampires Vs. The Bronx, you fight back using every silly tactic that Emmy-winning Saturday Night Live director Osmany "Oz" Rodriguez can drum up for you.
Rodriguez is writing and directing the Broadway Video film, which — according to Deadline — stars a huge comic lineup. Sarah Gadon, Chris Redd, The Kid Mero, Method Man, Shea Whigham, Vladimir Caamaño, Jaden Michael, Gregory Diaz IV, Gerald W. Jones III, and Coco Jones make up the first batch of the film’s diverse ensemble to defend the NYC borough.
Rodriguez has directed episodes of comedy shows The Last Man on Earth, Detroiters, and AP Bio (along with tons and tons of SNL segments riffing on The Handmaid's Tale and The Walking Dead/Chappelle's Show), but Vampires Vs. The Bronx marks his second feature film after Brother Nature.
In production now — with SNL creator Lorne Michaels producing alongside Erin David, Bert Hamelinck, and Michael Sagol — the movie focuses on vampire gentrification, which its central teenage friends have to fight off in order to save a local bodega. Sort of an “Attack the Block meets What We Do In the Shadows” kind of vibe — with a little Blade thrown in for flavor.
The film has no release date set, but with a cast like that and with Michaels as EP, it looks to make waves when it hits theaters.
