The post-apocalypse is big business these days, and Syfy’s vampire drama Van Helsing will officially be coming back for another round of monster hunting in 2017.

The network (Corporate owner of Blastr -Ed.) has ordered a 13-episode second season of the series, which premiered five weeks ago. Production on the new season is expected to begin in January 2017 for a likely premiere in the fall.

“We have a wonderful and terrifying road ahead planned for Vanessa, her allies and her enemies,” Van Helsing writer/showrunner Neil LaBute told Deadline. “I think this is a world and a story that can be sustained for many years and I am inspired to do so thanks to Syfy’s obvious trust and commitment in the storytellers, cast and crew.”

The series is set in the wake of a volcanic eruption that inspires vampire hordes to take over the country. Humanity’s only hope is Vanessa Van Helsing (Kelly Overton), a descendant of the legendary vampire hunter. Vanessa wakes up from a coma to learn bloodsuckers have taken over her country, and since she’s immune to their bite, she leads the charge to retake the world. The series is a fun horror-adventure romp, and we caught up with the cast at New York Comic Con to talk about what’s coming later this season.

Van Helsing airs Friday nights on Syfy.

Are you glad to see the series coming back for more vampire-slaying action?
