If you thought Season 1 of SYFY's Van Helsing was crazy, hold onto your butts, because the cast and creators promised bigger stakes and tons more action when Season 2 starts this fall. At the series' panel at San Diego Comic-Con, they teased the new season, which will be released "in a month that begins with S," so hopefully you can figure that one out.
The second season will feature much of the cast on separate missions (not to mention in various forms of vampire-ness). The reimagining of the classic Dracula story, focusing on Kelly Overton as Vanessa Helsing (get it? Van Helsing?), will see a Season 2 that revolves around what's at the core of human and vampire nature, new and changing factions, power plays, and a new badass played by Missy Peregrym, a genre alum of Smallville, Heroes, and Reaper.
Oh, and blood. Lots and lots of blood. Did we mention the blood? Just watch the new Comic-Con trailer below and you'll see for yourself.
Individually, actor Christopher Heyerdahl teased that his character Sam will take a turn for the worse, giving up even trying to be a good guy. Jonathan Scarfe's Axel deals with his new status, namely being a vampire now. And Rukiya Bernard's Doc tries to find her way. Vanessa's relationship with the vampire Dylan will also be a focus of the new season's story.
Interestingly, Kelly Overton was pregnant during production, but it didn't slow her down. She said at the panel that she's loving stories of (and being one of them now) badass pregnant ladies in science fiction (Gal Gadot was pregnant for the reshoots and pickups of Wonder Woman).
You can see Van Helsing back on SYFY sometime in September, but for now, watch the trailer a few times. Warning: There's blood. We don't want to forget to mention the blood.
