Verne Troyer, the actor who’s played unforgettable roles in everything from the Austin Powers movies to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, is receiving treatment in a Los Angeles hospital after responders reportedly received a medical emergency call from his home.
Emergency personnel arrived at Troyer’s home in North Hollywood Monday evening after receiving a call that an LAPD representative described to The Wrap as a “reported poisoning.” A Troyer representative did not immediately respond to SYFY WIRE’s request for comment.
No law enforcement officials have confirmed that Troyer is the person who was transported to the hospital, but Troyer’s family posted a brief message on the actor’s Facebook page Tuesday, asking fans to remember him in their prayers while assuring that he was receiving “the best care possible and is resting comfortably.”
The actor best known for his Austin Powers role of Mini-Me has acknowledged past struggles with alcohol abuse, telling People Magazine in 2017, “I’ve battled alcohol addiction in the past and while it’s not always been an easy fight, I’m willing to continue my fight day by day.”
Troyer also entered the hospital in 2015 after having a seizure while signing autographs. He acknowledged that he had voluntarily checked himself into treatment “to continue to get the help that I need,” according to People.
Troyer has an extensive and diverse filmography highlighted by appearances in several genre features, including Men in Black, Rocketman, Wishmaster, The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, and, most recently, the 2015 horror film Gnome Alone.
