Looking for awesome women in gaming? You've come to the right place. Every month, we spotlight a different character we can't get enough of, and this month's a real doozy. December's Video Game Heroine of the Month has no qualms about speaking her mind and taking what she wants when she wants it. Those are the kind of roles for women we can't get enough of, after all!
Meet Fury, the star of Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic's Darksiders III. The last of the Nephilim and a Horseman of the Apocalypse, Fury is the fiery protagonist you'll be stepping into the role of when you boot up the game. Fury is a raucous and formidable horseman and not one to be trifled with. She's the first female protagonist to star in the Darksiders franchise, and as such one of the coolest women to be introduced this month. A mage who's equal parts unpredictable and strange, she brings a variety of different fighting styles to combat, whether she uses whips and swords, daggers, or magic to eliminate her enemies. She can even take on various different elemental forms to heighten her capabilities in battle.
Fury was originally part of the violent crusade against several different worlds, committing genocide and looking out for herself, while her brothers saw their rampages as a bit of a threat to the universe's balance. Her three siblings joined the Charred Council, an important entity in the Darksiders universe that works to maintain balance by preventing one being from becoming too powerful.
After swearing loyalty to the Charred Council, Fury received her horse Rampage, one of the only beings in this world she loves more than herself. When it came to carrying out their first task, Fury and her brothers did as they were told without feeling a thing – and that was wiping out the Nephilim race they belonged to – except for her brother Death, of course.
Darksiders III takes place after the beginning of Darksiders and after the events of Darksiders II. It shows War, Death, Strife, and Fury herself coming to serve the Charred Council, and Fury is marked as the most unruly member of the bunch. It should add some much-needed context to Fury's actions and as such offer players plenty of reasons to want to join her crusade during the game as she works to hunt down and destroy the Seven Deadly Sins, which previously escaped the Charred Council's grasp and fled to Earth.
Fury is as smart as a whip, sardonic, and full of rage – she's certainly not one to be trifled with, and holds her own ten times over in Darksiders III. If you're interested in stepping into the role of a decidedly different member of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, Fury is a great choice, and it's fantastic that she got her own game this time around.
Can't wait to see what it feels like to truly embody Fury? Pick up Darksiders III, which is out now on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC.
