When it comes to giant robots made up of smaller robots, Voltron holds a special place in the hearts of a generation (take that, Devastator!). Now the kids of today (and their nostalgic parents/older siblings) will be reintroduced to the property thanks to Voltron: Legendary Defender, a new series coming to Netflix this summer. Here's the official synopsis:

Five unsuspecting teenagers, transported from Earth into the middle of a sprawling intergalactic war, become pilots for five robotic lions in the battle to protect the universe from evil. Only through the true power of teamwork can they unite to form the mighty warrior known as Voltron: Legendary Defender

Yep, that sounds like Voltron. The voice cast includes Steven Yeun (The Walking Dead) as Keith, Jeremy Shada (Adventure Time) as Lance, Bex Taylor-Klaus (Arrow), Tyler Labine (Reaper) as Hunk, Josh Keaton (Transformers Prime) as Shiro, Kimberly Brooks (Ben 10: Omniverse) as Princess Allura and Rhys Darby (Flight of the Concords) as Coran. The first teaser trailer can be seen here.

But what can fans of the previous incarnations expect to see carried over into the new show, and what's being reimagined this time around? I caught up with executive producers Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos who assured me that we'll be seeing more weapons featured than just the blazing sword and much, much more. Check out what they had to say in the video below!
