As 2018 begins to wind down, a lot of “year’s best” list will start to come out. However, that doesn’t mean you should give up on the present just yet. Our own Jackie Jennings sat down with Ariell Johnson, owner of Amalgam Comics and Coffee House in Philadelphia to discuss the comics you should be reading right now (well, later. Finish this first).
On the superhero side, Ariell recommended Shuri, based on the breakout character of 2018’s Black Panther film. She also let us know about Ironheart, as Riri Williams finally stars in her title that’s not named Iron Man.
It’s rare when a Brian K. Vaughn comic isn’t a must read, so Ariell let us know to jump on the Paper Girls bandwagon for some time traveling chicanery.
2018 looks to be the year of the indie comic, as Infidel, Jook Joint, and Magic Order added themselves to the “pull list.”
You can check out more details on all the titles in the video below, as well as Ariell’s recommendations for what to watch on TV from 2018.
From superheroes to magician mobsters, comics in 2018 are a smorgasbord of titles for everyone’s tastes.
