Vin Diesel is cursed with immortality in new trailer for The Last Witch Hunter

If you thought The Last Witch Hunter looked like a trip before, just check out the latest trailer for Vin Diesel’s newest would-be franchise. This might be just crazy enough to work.

The new trailer shows off a ton of new footage, and also offers up some fun scenes from co-star Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings) as a young priest who joins Diesel’s witch hunter on his crusade. We also get a peek at Diesel, armed with a shotgun and sword, heading to the dream world to fight ... some crazy, evil-looking stuff. My God, and that giant beard is insane, right?

This trailer also goes a long way to set up the story of an immortal warrior facing off with the netherworld’s biggest baddies, and it seems to take pieces from a whole lot of different things we like. Tonally, this thing looks like a mishmash of Constantine, Fast and the Furious, Sleepy Hollow, Nightmare on Elm Street and a half-dozen other influences — and we mean that in the best way possible. They just threw cool stuff in a blender and gave Vin Diesel a sword. Not the worst idea, admittedly.

This is either going to be a schlocky masterpiece or perhaps the final nail in the coffin for Diesel to have a shot at fronting a big-time franchise that isn’t focused on high-speed racing and scantily clad ladies.

Check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think:

The Last Witch Hunter opens Oct. 23.
