Love him or hate him, there’s one thing you can’t deny — Vin Diesel is one of the most accessible and connected movie stars on the planet. The guy interacts with fans via social media all the time, revealing intel on projects and even rallying the troops to help get movies made at times.

His latest update revolves around a certain alien killer who made his debut in a little movie called Pitch Black. It’s hard to believe the little, sci-fi flick about a crashed ship on a hostile planet has spawned a legit movie franchise via Riddick, but Diesel promises the next installment is already on track to shoot in 2017.

Diesel used a fan video to reveal the project, with a working title of Furya (the name of Roddick’s home planet), which will serve as an “origin story” for the character. He also teased the plot will be more “expansive in its mythology.” Diesel was joined by writer-director David Twohy, who confirmed the next sequel will also be rated-R (woot woot). Sadly, no word on how this project might fit with the mysterious TV spinoff series set to follow bounty hunters in the Riddick universe Diesel is also developing.

As for why we have to wait a whole ‘nother year for this movie to actually start shooting? Diesel notes he has everything from Fast and Furious 8, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and a new XXX on his docket in the meantime (not to mention a Pacifier sequel no one was asking for, either).

Are you glad to hear another Riddick is on the way?
