It’s a long wait until Star Wars: Episode VII arrives in late 2015, but the folks at Lucasfilm are at least kind enough to keep us entertained with some classic goodies. The latest? A vintage clip that breaks down the making of that asteroid-field scene in Empire Strikes Back.
As part of the classic bit of footage, the original storyboards are lined up alongside the actual scene — which is a fascinating window into how an FX shot comes together (especially in the early days of visual effects).
The footage, and storyboards, show off the interior cockpit shots, TIE fighters bashing into asteroids, and the Millennium Falcon docking inside a large asteroid. It’s pretty neat, and the graphics show the scenes almost exactly as they’d appear in the final film.
Check out the footage above and enjoy this nice jog down memory lane. Then, you know, get back to counting down the days until Dec. 18, 2015.
