A Voltron: Legendary Defender fan is taking shipping to the next level: resorting to blackmail and putting a studio and people’s jobs in jeopardy.
Demanding that the animated series make a popular fandom ship called Klance (which features characters Keith and Lance in a gay relationship) canon, aka official, on the show, a Twitter user has threatened to leave the unauthorized pictures of confidential storyboards, artwork and character designs from TV show up if his demands are not met.
A reboot of the 1980s-1990s highly popular cartoon series Voltron: Legendary Defender is a teamwork effort between DreamWorks Animation and Netflix, with Korean-based Studio Mir providing the animation. Thing is, following a tour of Studio Mir, a fan released pics (pics that were retweeted and shared across social media, including Twitter and Tumblr), leaving the studio open to lawsuits from DreamWorks if they can’t get all them down. Most fans who shared pics have deleted them, except for Klance14.
Which, in turn, has led to strong reactions from other fans of the show:
By now, I’m sure most of you will be aware of the concept of “shipping” characters together from a particular show, movie, book, comic book and everything in between. A lot of fans are now resorting to extremely toxic behavior by threatening writers, showrunners, and actors as well as other fans to try and get what they want (and that's totally NOT COOL), which, you know what? NEVER WORKS.
So yeah, I don't expect Studio Mir to actually meet those demands.
