There’s a lot fans can look forward to in the upcoming fourth season of Voltron: Legendary Defender if the sneak peeks offered during the show's New York Comic Con panel are any indication.

Executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos said he has a lot of anticipation for what’s coming next after everything that the Voltron team went through last season. He was joined on the panel by co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery, Kimberly Brooks (Allura), AJ LoCascio (Lotor), and Josh Keaton (Shiro). According to Montgomery, in addition to building the Voltron Coalition, Season 4 will explore what’s in store for the Galra Empire with the return of Zarkon as Lotor is trying to work on his own plans. To Dos Santos, it’s an interesting duality to team with Voltron’s own leadership discussions. One of the things they enjoy about the show is that it can have comedy but it's really serious as well.

“There’s definitely some consequences. I don’t think any of the Paladins are at each other’s throats yet, but we’ll see,” he said.

Many clips from the new season were shown during the panel, with the first offering a look at Pidge’s continuing search for her family. Both executive producers love how her character has evolved and loved the response from the crowd to the clip. Another clip showed that Keith and Shiro are still talking about the leadership of Voltron as well.

“[Keith’s] not very comfortable filling Shiro’s shoes. They’re huge shoes to fill because Shiro was an incredible leader and he doesn’t feel like he’s there yet,” Montgomery said. “So he’s trying to get as much training as he can.”

Keaton would like to see Shiro have an outlet for his leadership energy moving forward and have nice things happen to the character since he’s been through a lot! Meanwhile Brooks said Allura is “on board for anything as long as they get the job done.”

As for Lotor, LoCascio described his character as unpredictable as usual. He has a different approach to things compared to Zarkon and in a clip from the new season we see him moving forward with his own plans by returning to Planet Daibazaal.

The panelists wouldn’t give away too much more about what Lotor will do once he makes it through the rift. However, in other important character news Kaltenecker the cow does return this season! From the hilarious clip shown at the panel, it’s an appearance fans won’t want to miss.

The next season of Voltron: Legendary Defender premieres on Netflix Oct. 13.
