Engineers are trying to figure out cooler and cooler ways to make stealth bombers, and military contractor BAE systems is pitching something that looks straight out of Voltron.

That classic-style stealth bomber above? It’s old news. The company is currently developing a concept design that would allow a bomber to break into three smaller craft and merge back together in midflight. Yes, it looks as cool as it sounds.

Aside from the obvious fact that it's awesome, researchers say the design could also allow for longer missions, with the ship essentially functioning like a flock of geese by way of Transformers, while also being capable of breaking apart and functioning as three different ships when arriving at a destination.

The folks at Sploid put together the nifty animation below, and you can check out a full video of the design at BBC News.
