The end of Captain America: Civil War left Steve Rogers' position as a hero in the air, with the Avengers essentially broken up and Cap on the run with a few of his team members. So, what will his status be in Infinity War?
An appearance by Chris Evans (Steve Rogers) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) at Ace Comic Con in Glendale, Arizona, may have provided some clarity — and confirmed a long-standing rumor in the process. Many fans assumed Cap would take on his comic-based persona of Nomad in the next Avengers films, seemingly disillusioned with the state of the world.
The reveal comes from an apparent autograph on a Captain America shield, signed by the stars at the event. Evans signed the shield as both “Cap” and “Nomad” below his name. Stan then wrote, “I’m with Nomad” next to his signature. From the bits we’ve seen of Infinity War, the shift makes sense.
The first trailer for the film shows a bearded Steve Rogers stepping out of the shadows in Wakanda, as Black Panther makes clear he’s going to need a shield for when Thanos arrives. It stands to reason he’ll still be in exile by this point in the timeline, but there’s nothing like a Mad Titan attack to get everyone back on the same side.
Avengers: Infinity War is set to bring pretty much every MCU hero together, with the Avengers teaming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy to battle Thanos’ long-anticipated attack on Earth.
Avengers: Infinity War opens May 28.
