Oh, you’ve got to love Samuel L. Jackson. Want some intriguing new intel on Star Wars: Episode VII? Just get Jackson in front of a camera.

Jackson, who played the Jedi Mace Windu in the prequel trilogy, recently showed up on the Late Show With David Letterman for a chat. An obvious topic: The new Star Wars film. Luckily for us, Jackson was recently in a film with original Star Wars cast member Mark Hamill (aka Luke Skywalker).

Turns out, at least according to Jackson, Hamill hasn’t been contacted for a role in the film. It’s been rumored for a while that Hamill would be back in some capacity, but now that J.J. Abrams and Lawrence Kasdan have taken over script duties, it sounds like that might have changed.

Here’s an excerpt from the conversation:

“After I left Germany, I actually went to London and started another film. And I’m in the film with Mark Hamill. So I asked Mark if he had heard from J.J. Abrams, and he said, ‘No.’”

Considering that most of the early rumors indicated Episode VII would feature Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher reprising their roles from the original trilogy, it sounds like Abrams could be tinkering with the formula as he races toward that mandatory December 2015 release date.

What do you think? Is this all a fakeout, or is Hamill not a part of the sequel?
