Wait, did someone just (really) steal the Batmobile while filming in Detroit?

Be on the lookout! It seems not even the Dark Knight himself can keep a sweet ride like the new-look Batmobile safe in the Motor City.

Bleeding Cool is reporting that one of the Batmobiles being used to film Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice in Detroit has possibly been stolen by a local ne’er-do-well. Yeah, that’s right — there is possibly a rogue Batmobile zipping around the mean streets (or hiding out in a garage) as you read this.

The alleged theft hasn’t been substantiated by the studio yet, but the report cites “scuttlebutt from sources in Detroit” close to the production as saying a Batmobile has gone missing and is believed stolen. The local CBS News affiliate has also picked up the story.

Theft is obviously bad, but man, could you imagine nicking a friggin’ Batmobile? Epic. Illegal, and bad. But epic.

As you’ve probably heard, they’re filming in Detroit partially to mimic the darker look of Gotham City, as Detroit has gone through its share of hard times in recent years. The crime rate is high, and there are parts of the city that have all but been abandoned as people have filed out of certain neighborhoods as the city struggles to support the once-sprawling metropolis.

So if you’re near the Detroit area, keep an eye out for a Batmobile. Oh, and definitely beware of that gun turret.

UPDATE: According to the Detroit Free Press, police in Detroit have confirmed the theft rumors are, apparently, not true. Or, you know, maybe Batfleck went all vigilante and tracked it down. A police spokesperson notes: “The Batmobile is safe in the Batcave where it belongs.” Well played.
