Thanks to King T'Challa (Chadwick Boseman) opening up his country to the rest of the world at the end of Marvel Studios' Black Panther, Wakanda got to come to San Diego Comic-Con in big way.
Okay, fine, so maybe it's not a real place, but the cosplayers putting a ton of effort into their Wakandan garb, inspired by the film, definitely made the apocryphal African nation feel authentic in the eyes of con attendees.
Walking around the convention floor, we snapped a nice collection of Panther-related photos such as your standard Black Panther suits, Dora Milaje uniforms, and M'Baku grass skirts. After all, Winston Duke's portrayal of the Jabari Tribe leader turned out to be a breakout fan-favorite, particularly when he jokingly threatens to feed Agent Ross (Martin Freeman) to his children.
But then, you've got the cosplayers who get very, very creative with the topic. In the gallery below you'll notice a Pink Panther outfit inspired by Forest Whitaker's Zuri and an oversized Panther helmet and arm modeled after the Japanese "beckoning cat" (maneki-neko) statues.
Nevertheless, all of these people deserve a huge amount of credit for the amount of work, thought, and creativity put into their costumes. Showing up "in disguise" is an immutable Comic-Con tradition and a good sign of what the most popular Halloween fashion will be for that year.
Head on down to the gallery and let us know what Panther cosplay you love the most!
