Last night, The Walking Dead concluded the first half of Season 9 with the shocking introduction of the Whisperers, a group of human survivors who dress up in the skins of fallen Walkers so they can move freely among them. It'd be a nifty survival trick if they weren't completely batsh** crazy.
While we won't get to see more of the Whisperers in action until the new year, AMC released a small preview of the second half of the season, which should help tide you over for the next few months or so.
Titled "New Enemy," the teaser includes a good look at Beta, one of the top Whisperer leaders (played by Bates Motel's Ryan Hurst) — the main leader, Alpha, will be played by Minority Report's Samantha Morton. At the end of the preview, there's also a glimpse of a freed and whispering Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) reunited with a baseball bat and saying, "Home sweet home."
Watch the teaser now:
In last night's episode, Jesus (Tom Payne) is killed by a "Walker" after finding a frightened Eugene (Josh McDermitt), who believes that the zombies are evolving. This is proved to be utterly false when Daryl (Norman Reedus) examines the "undead" horde only to discover that they are merely humans draped in Walker skin.
Ladies and gentlemen, please help us in giving a warm welcome to the Whisperers. They may be just the thing to make us all forget about the departure of Andrew Lincoln's Rick Grimes.
The second half of The Walking Dead's ninth season returns to AMC February 10.
