Walking Dead producer explains why you'll like Carl better in S3

The producers of AMC's The Walking Dead have already appealed to annoyed fans, asking them to give Rick Grimes' young son Carl another chance. Now we know why—it seems the Carl we'll meet in season three won't be the same bone-headed kid we've come to know.

In a chat with TV Guide, Walking Dead executive producer Glen Mazzara said Carl (Chandler Riggs) will finally start to grow up in year three, as he comes to realize the world of his childhood is never coming back:

"We're interested in exploring Carl as a child soldier in this war against the walkers. He becomes a very, very effective, strong part of the group. He's no longer the young child who needs to be cared for and who needs to be minded. That Carl is gone."
Honestly, this storyline does sound pretty cool, and a lot like what they've pulled off (with mixed success) on TNT's hit alien-invasion series Falling Skies, where young teens are called in to service to battle invading alien hordes.

So, Carl-haters out there, hold out hope: Change is (hopefully) coming soon. What do you think? Can Carl become a useful member of the gang?
