Losing Glenn to Negan's barbed wire baseball bat was definitely a devastating blow to Maggie on AMC's The Walking Dead, but that setback in her love life hasn't stopped her from taking a formidable leadership position on the show, particularly in the revolution against Negan and the Saviors.

However, the actress who plays Ms. Greene, Lauren Cohan, has the option to leave the series after the current eighth season when her contract expires.

“I’m incredibly hopeful," showrunner Scott Gimple told TVLine about Cohan re-signing with the show. Still, he's not naive and also broached the idea that people leave television shows all the time for a multitude of reasons, but that Cohan is still in talks to return.

It would be a real shame to kill off or recast such a crucial character after a major season, which featured important development for Maggie. Based on Gimple's thoughts, things are looking good for her return. Not to mention the fact that her comic counterpart plays a key role in events for years to come.

"Lauren is an actor who has such intuition and such power,” he continued. “So yeah, hopefully, it all works out.”
