Production on AMC’s eagerly anticipated Walking Dead spinoff is nicely rumbling along; they just cast two of the main characters, got a new title and have released some intriguing plot details.

According to Deadline, the Walking Dead companion series is now going by the name of Cobalt. It’ll take place during the same zombie apocalypse depicted in its parent series The Walking Dead (an unconfirmed rumor has it taking place in the early days) but set in a different location.

The storyline will center around a divorced man and teacher named Sean Cabrera, and a female guidance counselor named Nancy Tompkins.

Frank Dillane (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) -- who happens to be Game of Thrones’ Stephen Dillane’s son -- has been cast in the role of Nancy’s son Nick, a former drug addict.

Another relative newcomer, Alycia Debnam Carney (Into the Storm), has been cast as the woman’s ambitious but sensible daughter Ashley.

Roles still waiting to be filled are those of Sean, Nancy, Sean’s son Cody and “wilted flower child” Andrea. (Yep, another one.) Since the new series is set to begin shooting this month, we should have some more casting news sooner rather than later.

Walking Dead Cobalt is co-created by The Walking Dead’s graphic novel writer Robert Kirkman and Sons of Anarchy writer Dave Erickson. The new series will explore “what is going on in the zombie apocalypse in other parts of the world.” It should air sometime next year.

Are you guys looking forward to following our new group of zombie-apocalypse survivors?
