The first two episodes of The Walking Dead’s new season made it pretty obvious what the Big Bad is this season — but apparently things get even worse than we thought. Seriously, it gets bad.

In a chat with TV Guide, co-star Lauren Cohan (Maggie) talked about how the super-flu will take a massive toll on the prison camp. We’ve already had a few casualties, and we figured there’d be at least a few more.

Turns out there will be a whole lot more. Not to say everyone dies, but it sounds like virtually the entire core cast will be out of commission at some point — well, except for Maggie. Cohan said they reach a point where she’s the only one with enough strength left to fight off the zombie hordes, meaning things will definitely be taking a turn for the worse.

Here’s an excerpt:

“There's a point where the number of able-bodied people is one or two. It gets to a point where Maggie is the only person who can actually fight.”

It’ll be interesting to see how the writers weave this storyline together in season four, and if they pull it off it can make for an awesome angle to enrich the world and introduce some new challenges. The first two episodes have impressed, so fingers crossed the momentum continues.

What do you think? Is having the group decimated by the flu a compelling plot twist?
