Steven Yeun is swapping out putrefying zombies for an extra plump porker in Bong Joon-ho's (The Host, Mother) new Netflix sci-fi fantasy flick, Okja. Joon-ho's last film, Snowpiercer, was an icy blast of awesome, storming through theaters worldwide and netting an $86 million box-office total.
Okja stars Seohyun Anstory as a young girl whose best friend is a genetically modified pig that grows to an extraordinary size. She must embark on a dangerous rescue mission to help the humongous hog escape from the clutches of the evil corporation that created it. The film has assembled a killer cast which also includes Jake Gyllenhaal, Tilda Swinton, Bil Nighy, Paul Dano and Lily Collins. Other featured actors are Devon Bostwick (The 100), Byun Heebong (The Host), Shirley Henderson (Anna Karenina), Daniel Henshall (The Babadook), Choi Wooshik (Set Me Free) and Yoon Je Moon (Mother). Co-produced by Netflix and Brad Pitt's Plan B Productions, the $50 million creature feature just began filming in Seoul, South Korea, earlier this month.
Okja will premiere globally on Netflix in 2017 and is scheduled for a limited day-and-date theatrical release in the U.S. and Korea soon after. No announcement yet on exactly what role Yeun will play, but his participation in the monster movie might solve the mystery of Glenn's fate on The Walking Dead.
