The TV gods have heard our prayers. The Walking Dead has finally cast the coveted role of the Governor. The good news is, he's been cast; the bad news is, he won't appear until season three.

It took them long enough, but The Walking Dead has cast David Morrissey as season three's Big Bad. Who is David Morrissey? The British actor has starred in feature films such as Centurion, Nowhere Boy and The Other Boleyn Girl.

He's also appeared on multiple TV shows, including Doctor Who, Meadowlands and State of Play. But AMC's The Walking Dead is a different kind of monster, and Morrissey has big shoes to fill.

According to The Hollywood Reporter,

The casting of the legendary character—also known as Phillip—is a long awaited one for fans of the comics, which will release its 94th issue next week. The character's sadistic methods of leadership are counter-balanced with a personal struggle involving his daughter.

Prior to Morrissey's casting, Oscar-nominated actor John Hawkes (Winter's Bone) was rumored for the Governor role, as well as Tom Savini (From Dusk Till Dawn), who's a huge fan of the character.

The Walking Dead airs Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on AMC

What do you think of the new Governor? Is he everything you imagined?
