The first season of Syfy’s ambitious space opera The Expanse did a lot of heavy lifting to establish this complicated future world. Now Season 2 is looking to blow it straight to hell with an all-out war.

Syfy (Corporate owner of Blastr -Ed.) has dropped a new trailer for Season 2 of the critically acclaimed series, which follow the fallout from the Season 1 finale and that mysterious weapon that was unleashed. Earth, Mars and the asteroid belt are all on the verge of war — and the rag-tag crew of the Rocinante is caught right in the middle of it. And they’ve brought hardened detective Joe Miller (Thomas Jane) along for the ride.

The effects and production values look top notch, just like last season, and we can’t wait to see where the story goes next. The series has been described as basically Game of Thrones meets Battlestar Galactica — and Season 2 seems poised to pay off that lofty praise. The series is based on the New York Times bestselling book series collectively known as The Expanse, written by Daniel Abraham and Ty Franck (under the pen name James S. A. Corey).

The second season of The Expanse will debut Wednesday, February 8 at 10/9c with a two-episode premiere.
