In the overwhelming era of glassy-eyed information overload we're absorbed in everyday, we have an insatiable lust to know everything there is about our favorite film saga, comic book, TV series, graphic novel and video game and their characters' innumerable backstories and precise narrative origins. Nothing is left to mystery in our quest for cerebral saturation. Sometimes these preludes are welcomed, but often they are not.

With Matt Reeves' War for the Planet of the Apes hitting theaters on July 14, and a prequel comic book on the way from Boom! Studios on July 12, the studio has approved a new tie-in novel by Titan Books to fill in the events between 2014's Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the new sequel. Being released today, War for the Planet of the Apes: Revelations is written by Greg Keyes, who collaborated closely with the film's creative team to ensure a smooth transition into the next hairy chapter of the franchise.

Here's the official publisher's synopsis:

Driven from their woodland home, Caesar and his apes are still recovering from the takeover by renegade ape Koba. Caesar is desperate to avoid war with the humans, but this is a faint hope, as his enemies are about to receive military reinforcements headed by the ruthless Colonel McCullough. While trying to hold off McCullough’s soldiers, Caesar sends his son Blue Eyes on a mission to the south to try to find a safe haven for the apes, despite rumors of terrible things happening there. Meanwhile supporters of Koba’s revolt are spreading dissent among Caesar’s ranks…

Will you go bananas over this bridging story, or will you swing straight into the movie when it mobs theaters next month?
