The team headed into a virtual world in the last Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the first clip from the show’s return gives us a deep dive into this “What If…” world.

When last we left S.H.I.E.L.D., Daisy and Simmons were heading into the Framework to try and rescue Coulson and the gang. This clip picks up with Daisy walking into her alternate life — complete with the late Grant Ward in her bed, and a Hydra badge on the dresser. Oh, and she isn’t an Inhuman in this world and is still going by her old name “Skye.” Seeing how effortlessly Brett Dalton falls back into the role of Ward is almost creepy, and if anything, this is a peek at how the show may have turned out before Ward was outed as a double agent and eventually killed (then possessed by a parasitic alien and killed again).

It looks like Daisy has a lot to catch up on as she tries to go undercover in this world. Waking up alongside someone she hates is obviously bad, but considering that Simmons might literally be waking up in a grave six feet under the ground, it could always be worse. We caught up with producer Jed Whedon to talk about this alternate world before the break, and he teased it’s basically their take on the classic “What If” comic format. If the clip below is any indication, it’ll certainly be an interesting trip down the rabbit hole.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns April 4 on ABC.
