It’s hard to argue that Michael Bay doesn’t have his own trademark style (see: EXPLOSIONS! ZOMG!), and seeing him sit down and talk moviemaking for a full 10 minutes is oddly transfixing.

One of the special features in Transformers: Age of Extinction has been released, featuring a full 10-minute featurette of Bay talking about his action movie directing techniques and how he tried to spice up the set pieces and insanity in the fourth installment of the franchise. He's been doing this for a while, and it apparently takes some effort to keep it "fresh."

Yes, we all like to joke about Bay’s ‘splosions, but you’ve got to respect the level of thought and attention he puts into making his action scenes and ‘splosions as Michael Bay-y as possible. He knows what he represents, and the guy is proud of it. Age of Extinction was nothing if not a white-knuckle thrill ride of bombastic action, and there’s more of an art to making things go boom than you thought ... we guess.

So any aspiring movie directors out there — or just would-be pyromaniacs — check out the footage below and prepare to learn from the master:
