For as long as fandom has existed, people have always loved to come up with exciting, well-constructed and sometimes completely bonkers fan theories about their favorite TV shows, movies, books or more.

Heck, just look at Tumblr, Reddit and other social media sites to see that fan theories are alive and well... but while sometimes there's a boatload of evidence to support them, other times there are not. But that's not stopping rabid fans hellbent on a theory of theirs.

We at SYFY WIRE do love to see a well-researched and even plausible fan theory — even one that's a bit out there — so we've compiled a list of five of our all-time favorites. Before you proceed, be aware that there are spoilers for Game of Thrones below, in case some of you guys are not fully caught-up with the HBO series.

Sitting at number five of our favorite fan theories is that Tyrion Lannister is actually a secret Targaryen. While the show has never really made much of it (although hints have been dropped throughout the series) or has yet to confirm it, there's much more evidence to be found in George R.R. Martin's books.

The next fan theory on our list is that of Neville Longbottom actually being the Chosen One, and NOT Harry Potter. That one was debunked at the conclusion of the series but hey, it was fun while it lasted.

Another popular fan theory actually confirmed by Marvel (specifically in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2) is that Stan Lee is actually Uatu the Watcher. Which explains all the Stan Lee cameos peppered across the Marvel films.

The next one is that Stanley Kubrick helped faked the moon landing and admits it in his movie The Shining. Some of you may already be aware that there's a conspiracy theory that posits the Apollo 11 moon landing mission was actually faked and that Kubrick was the director of the soundstage moon landing. This one was debunked by his daughter.

At number one is that Jar Jar Binks was actually a trained Force user. That theory was offered by a Reddit user who also claims Palpatine was an underling of his. No doubt that one is completely crazy as fan theories go, but the Reddit user gave some compelling evidence on the subject.

As always, there's much more information included in our video above so make sure to check it out to get all the goodies. What fan theory is your all-time favorite? Chime in with your thoughts in the comments below.
