From doomed love interest, to clone, to badass superhero in her own right, Marvel's Gwen Stacy has had many iterations over the years, and now SYFY WIRE has spun a web around seven essential Gwen Stacy stories every comic book fan should read.

Created by writer Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko, Gwen Stacy made her first appearance in the pages of The Amazing Spider-Man #31 back in 1965 with the purpose of being Peter Parker’s lady love. She also became pretty famous for, well, dying in the two-issue series "The Night Gwen Stacy Died."

In 2014, the character took on the mantle of Spider-Woman in a storyline that took place on Earth-65, an alternate Earth where she was bitten by the radioactive spider instead of Peter, which led to her ongoing Spider-Gwen series in 2015.

The first Gwen Stacy story on our list is "If This Be My Destiny,” the storyline that introduced Gwen to the world in Amazing Spider-Man #31, and in which Gwen's first meeting with Peter didn't actually go off with a bang. This is followed by "In the Hands of a Hunter," the three-part Amazing Spider-Man storyline covered in issues #47-49 (1969). Enter Mary Jane Watson, who finally made her proper debut, kicking off the start of the iconic Gwen/Peter/Mary Jane love triangle.

Next up is Amazing Spider-Man #90 (1970) "And Death Shall Come." The issue featured the accidental death of Gwen's dad, NYPD Captain George Stacy, during a battle between Spidey and Doc Ock. Gwen blamed the wall-crawler for her dad's death, which became a major problem for the lovebirds.

Fourth on our list is "The Night Gwen Stacy Died," featured in The Amazing Spider-Man #121–122 (1973). The two-part story arc became a pivotal moment in Spider-Man's life and in the history of comics.

Our number five pick is 2014's Edge of the Spider-Verse #2, in which we meet Earth-65's Gwen Stacy, aka Spider-Woman, for the first time. Sitting at number six is Spider-Gwen #6, which concluded the character’s first story arc and saw Gwen dealing with Peter’s death.

Last but not least is ... well, you're just going to have to warch the video to find out!

Let us know which other Gwen Stacy stories would make your list.
