Having already debuted a brand-new console earlier this year with the Switch, Nintendo has shifted its focus from the future to the past with today's release of the SNES Classic. Just like last year's release of the NES, this retro gaming system is sure to sell out quickly, making it one of the fall's most sought-after geek releases.
The SNES Classic is a mini version of Nintendo's 1991 Super Nintendo Entertainment System (or 1990's Super Famicom, if you're in Japan), and it comes preloaded with 21 classic games. Among the titles included are well-known franchises like Super Mario World and The Legend of Zelda, but there are also several underappreciated gems ... and at least one game that you've definitely never played before.
If you've managed to get your hands on some of Nintendo's weaponized nostalgia today but don't know what to play first, we've got a few suggestions on where to start. Check out the video below for our recommendations on the 7 Essential games to play on the new system, then gather all of your best smash bros around the TV and give them your best shot. No cartridge blowing necessary.
