You might know Robert Downey Jr. and Mark Ruffalo as Science Bros Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, but that hasn't always been the case. Before they were members of Marvel's uber-successful Cinematic Universe as the Avengers, the well-known actors were lesser-known actors just trying to make a living in Hollywood.
Although they never seem to die in The Avengers films despite falling through portals back onto Earth and all, in their past work many members of the crew did die. Films Against Humanity put together a super-cut of the Avengers actors getting killed in horror films.
Watch a young Robert Downey Jr. shot to pieces in Natural Born Killers and see Mark Ruffalo stabbed to death before being killed by some sort of demon in Mirror Mirror 2: Raven Dance. There is a certain irony in Black Widow's Scarlett Johansson getting attacked by a spider in Eight Legged Freaks even though she technically isn't killed. But that's probably not as painful as Jeremy Renner catching fire in 28 Weeks Later. Even Captain America Chris Evans isn't safe as he freezes to death in Sunshine. He should probably just stay away from the cold. You might assume Chris Hemsworth is too pretty to die, but you'd be wrong. He suffers an unfortunate motorbike-related death in Cabin in the Woods. Not even the all-knowing Samuel L. Jackson is safe. Avengers villains aren't spared in this one either, which only seems fair. James Spader (voice of Ultron) is shot to death and catches fire. Josh Brolin (Thanos) is dead too.
Check out the video below to watch each death in its gory detail:
We probably won't see any deaths this dark in the MCU, so it's neat to see just what it might look like. Well, neat and traumatizing.
Avengers: Infinity War will be in theaters May 4, 2018.
