The live-action take on Neil Gaiman’s American Gods promises to be one of the buzziest shows of the year, so we caught up with co-star Orlando Jones about what it’s like for a hardcore Gaiman fan to actually land his dream role.
Jones talked about how he was a big fan of producer Bryan Fuller’s Hannibal, having worked with Fuller in the past, and had been a fan of Gaiman’s writing for years. So, when the series got off the ground, he was actually approached for the role of Mr. Nancy, after being fan-casted for the role for years. Jones also told us about how the series dips into real mythology for inspiration, and how he became a Gaiman fan after discovering his early books.
We also chat with him about the challenge of bringing the trickster god to life, the importance of color in the way Mr. Nancy presents himself, and getting the little things right.
American Gods premieres April 30 on Starz.
