We caught up with prominent sci-fi writer and author Sarah Kuhn to talk the state of geekdom. So how’s the world stacking up?

Kuhn, author of Heroine Complex (which is basically The Devil Wears Prada with superheroes), chatted about everything from what it takes to be a personal assistant to a superhero to the slowly growing role of Asian-Americans in the genre (with a shout out for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s ultra-talented Ming-Na Wen), and when aspiring writers shouldn’t listen to seemingly “good” advice.

She digs into the work she’s doing with Heroine Complex, and her approach to telling a story about a female Asian-American superhero. Not surprisingly, the story has resonated and found an audience, since it’s telling a story you don’t typically see told.
