It isn't just every day you get to see the end of everything.
There was a star out there among the heavens once, called GK Persei, but it went supernova over a century ago, in 1901. But it takes a heck of a long time for light to travel from the farthest reaches of space, so it took a long time to see it. Images were taken with the Isaac Newton Telescope and the Nordic Optical Telescope in Spain, and as a result we can get a glimpse of what it's like for a star to die.
