Family being a strong component of DC Comics’ new ongoing comic book series Batgirl and the Birds of Prey, it’s actually pretty darn cool that the title is written by two sisters: Julie and Shawna Benson.

Blastr had the chance to sit down with the dynamic writing duo during this past weekend’s New York Comic Con, where they chatted about the ongoing mystery of who is Oracle (FYI, it should be resolved by Issue 6) that’s been at the heart of this first story arc. The sisters also dropped a few hints and teases about what’s coming up for Batgirl, Huntress and Black Canary and explained the motivation behind their storytelling.

Illustrated by Claire Roe, Batgirl and the Birds of Prey was launched as part of DC Rebirth back in July, and we’re now up to Issue 3, which hit newsstands and comic book stores on Wednesday. The comic follows the adventures of our trio of female superheroes as they go toe to toe with the Snake Men and the villainous Oracle, who’s been using Barbara Gordon's (aka Batgirl) former super hacker alter ego.
