An exciting little sci-fi short titled Realm that’s basically a cross between Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Flatliners may become the next kickass franchise in Relativity’s future; the Rebecca Sonnenshine spec script just sold for a sweet mid-six-figure deal, with Scott Speer (Step Up Revolution, Eye Candy) attached to direct.

The story centers on a young woman who is a teenage exorcist holding the power to enter the soul of a possessed person in order to wage a physical battle against their inner (and literal) demons. Literally. In the short you’ll get to see below, the part is being played by Reign’s Adelaide Kane, who seems to be channeling her best impression of Underworld’s most awesome gun-toting, sword-wielding heroine, Selene (Kate Beckinsale).

Relativity got its hands on the script as Realm was beginning to gain some momentum online, and according to Deadline, the deal was made quickly. The idea comes from John Swetnam (who penned the short) and Speer. Sonnenshine was then hired to write the script. Swetnam, who most recently penned the Twister-wannabe flick Into the Storm starring The Hobbit star Richard Armitage, will produce alongside Speer, who'll also serve as executive producer. Have a look at the very cool short:

What do you think? Could Realm become an ass-kicking franchise worthy of Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
