The indefatigable popularity of Joss Whedon's Firefly and its legion of loyal Browncoat fans show no signs of retreating, even after the iconic series was bumped off the air 15 years ago following a single 14-episode season on Fox from 2002-2003.

After Universal released a spinoff feature film in 2005, Serenity, outcries over a resurrection of the funky space western erupted. The vocal fandom orbiting its legend have spawned countless clubs, podcasts, collectibles, board games, comics, action figures, cosplay galore, and myriad creative ventures all surrounding the cult show.

SYFY WIRE's Tara Bennett, co-author of The Official Firefly Companions, caught up with a pair of card-carrying Browncoat super fans, Max Dinerstein and Laurel Detkin, to launch into the Joss Whedon phenomenon at Chicago's C2E2 last weekend and find out exactly what makes these Firefly faithful tick.
