At this year's C2E2, Alan Tudyk told fans he didn’t think Firefly was going to work. At an early table reading, Tudyk recalled seeing the actor who would portray the captain, and he wasn't impressed.

"'This guy is not going to be a very good captain,'" shared Tudyk. "I remember going, 'I kind of thought he'd be different.' And the guy goes, 'Hi, my name is Sean [Maher], and I'm playing the doctor.' And I’m like, 'Oh good! You're gonna be a good doctor.' And then I met Nathan [Fillion]."

Gina Torres also shared the moment she met Nathan Fillion, who portrayed Captain Malcolm Reynolds. She said they encountered each other during a wardrobe test in which they squeezed into some very tight pants as their browncoats were chosen. According to Torres, the first words Fillion said to her were "the couple that dresses together stays together."

Of course, it didn't quite work out that way. Instead, it was Tudyk's Hoban "Wash" Washburne who formed the heart of the show with his onscreen wife, Zoe Alleyne Washburne, as played by Torres. Their loving bond carried through the short-lived outer-space western created by Joss Whedon before they reunited one last time in the Serenity feature film.

2018 marks the 15th anniversary of Firefly's single season on Fox, and fans at C2E2's opening day were fortunate to hear Torres and Tudyk share their memories about the show and the movie.

The one-hour panel is a pretty deep dive into their shared history with Firefly, but no power in the 'verse can stop the signal! The show and their characters live on in their hearts, and in the hearts of fans around the world.
