FLCL (Fooly Cooly) was a cult anime series encompassing six 30-minute episodes that ran in Japan from 2000 to 2001 and centered around the exploits of Naota Nandaba, a precocious 12-year-old boy whose placid suburban life is forever upended by the sudden arrival of the punk-rock alien Haruko Haruhara.

This hip sci-fi fantasy mini-series first aired in the U.S. on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim on several occasions between 2003 and 2011, then again on the cable channel's late-night, anime-themed Toonami from October 2013 to January 2014.

A full-on FLCL revival will debut this summer within Adult Swim's eclectic Toonami programming block as a 12-episode co-production between Production I.G, Toho, and Adult Swim titled FLCL Progressive. A third season, FLCL Alternative, will premiere in September 2018.

Today at C2E2, SYFY WIRE's Karama Horne was joined by executive producer Mitsuhisa Ishikawa and producer Maki Terashima-Furuta from Production I.G., voice actor Kari Wahlgren (Haruko), , and Adult Swim's Jason Demarco, where they discussed the April Fool's surprise Season 3 drop of the first episode, the upcoming season of FLCL Progressive, and what fans of this crazy anime sensation can expect when it returns to the air in June.
