At C2E2, SYFY WIRE's Jackie Jennings invited three of the convention's guests to take part in My Favorite Nerdifact, which offered a glimpse at three of the toylines from the '80s and ‘90s. Deadpool and Uncanny Avengers writer Gerry Duggan headlined the panel, alongside artist Sara Richard and podcaster Travis McElroy.
For his geek passion, Duggan brought Street Sharks, the apparently TMNT-inspired toys and animated series with anthropomorphic sharks who fought bad guys. Everything is shark-related with the Street Sharks, even their guitars! Duggan also noted his passion for LEGOs, which his young son doesn't necessarily share. But that doesn't stop the elder Duggan from buying them.
Richard was all about Jem and the Holograms, and she had a few dolls on hand. But the real surprise here was from Spectra and the Shimmerons, a Jem knockoff line created by Mattel. It's pretty obscure!
Finally, McElroy spoke about his passion for the Ewok Village playset from 1983, which was released in the same year Return of the Jedi came out. McElroy shared a few stories about his playset, including his suspicion that his father bought it for himself, as well as the way he used the Ewok village to stage a few He-Man and G.I. Joe crossovers with his other action figures.
There are more surprises along the way, and a vintage clip of a Hollywood superstar in a toy ad! Hey, we all have to start somewhere. And we suspect that this action star would probably do it all over again. You can watch the video below!
