Whether you associate Carl Weathers with Al Dillon, the cannonball-shouldered commando from the original Predator; the kickass superspy Action Jackson; or the Master of Disaster himself, Apollo Creed, in the Rocky franchise, there's little doubt he brings a major dose of machismo to any project he's involved with.

Weathers is starring alongside Michael Madsen (Thelma and Louise, Reservoir Dogs) and Viveca A. Fox (Independence Day) in the El Rey Network's new '80s style action animated comedy series, Explosion Jones. Madsen plays Bruce 'Explosion' Jones, a former Special Forces agent who becomes a bounty hunter/detective and single dad, battling drug lords, petty thieves, ex-mercenaries and constant corruption.

Writer/director Robert Rodriguez (Planet Terror, Desperado) delivered this 12-episode throwback series to go90 where it debuted on September 5. Weather plays Explosion's jacked-up best buddy, Duke Firestorm, and Fox is voicing the deceased wife of Jones.

SYFY WIRE chatted with the vocal cast at NYCC about how Weathers got roped into the gung-ho cartoon short series, playing heroes instead of villains, and nerding out in the presence of Captain Jean-Luc Picard.
